Santa Anita 7.24

Twelve members started early at Santa Anita with a new scramble format. The "Family Scramble" took a little getting used to but seemed to work out fine. Bob Harrison and Jim Nelson took first place by three strokes. Ralph and Kim settled for second, with Doc and Mark close behind for third.

Today's game was 4 Man Step-back. Scores are net scores based on Handicap. The USGA has a weighted formula to adjust handicaps.
First place went to the team of Paul, Tom, Ira and Vester.
BobB, BillW, John, and Ray took second, with BobH, Ralph JimS, and Kim settling for third.

Today's game was Criers. Everyone’s score is based on the best seven net scores (the two worst scores are removed). With 18 golfers, we had a good turnout.
Kim, Ira, and Mike took the top three spots.
Mike, Bill and Dave each picked up a skin.
There were 3 On-in-Ones recorded by Mike, Vester, and Ralph.

It was a tight finish in our Club Championship Finals. Vester was pressed by John up to the last hole but secured top low-gross honors with a long final putt. John was only one hole back for the two-round series but did secure low-net honors. Ralph topped the winnings sweepstakes with his second in low-gross, with other winnings.
Bill M got second in low-net.

Today was the first Round of the Club Championship.
John and Vester are neck and neck both Gross and Net.
But there are some good players right on their heels.
There were 2 On in Ones recorded by Vester and Paul.
There were 3 Skins by Ralph, Jim N and Bill W.
Our first ever Chipping Contest seemed a success. I hope everyone agrees.
Mike W. came in first, chipping to 3 ½ inches of the cup.
Ralph D. was second closest at 12 1/2 inches from the hole.
Ira K. was third place with a distance of 23 1/4 inches from the hole.

The tournament was scored as two rounds because most players played blue tees on the front 9 and white tees on the back 9. Bob Harrison took low-gross honors, Ralph was second, adding two skins, and Bill W secured third place also with a skin. Kim took low-net, and Richard took second, adding a skin to his take, with Mark hanging in for third also with a skin. Bill Morgan and Jim Nelson went home with one skin each.

Today's game the monthly LGLN and Putting Contest.
Harmon was the big winner with Low Net and 2 skins.
Mark and Richard rounded out Low Net at Second and Third.
Bob H took Low Gross. Jim and Vester took second and third in Low Gross.

There was a 5 way tie at the top broken by distance to the pin on the last of the 6 holes.
Henry C came in First with 13 putts for the six hole course.
He won the tie breaker by having his 1st putt on the 6th hole finish 10 inches from the cup. He wins $30.
Ira K came in Second with 13 putts for the six hole course. His 1st putt on the 6th hole finish 23 inches from the cup. He wins $20.
Bob B came in Third with 13 putts for the six hole course. His 1st putt on the 6th hole finish 50 inches from the cup. He wins $10.
Bill W and Vester P also finished with 13 putts; Bill 54 inches from the cup on his 1st putt on the 6th hole and Vester 58 inches from the cup on his 1st putt on the 6th hole.

Freed from the burden of collecting tournament fees, Richard could show his stuff, taking low net honors and three of the six skins, putting him on top of the winnings board. Bob B, Jack, Doc, and Paul shared in the Turkey spread of $30 each. Mike Pavese had a fine round, taking low gross honors also with a skin, and joined by Ralph, Kim, Vester, and Jim.
There were no on-in-ones carded.

We are going to need that time change soon... the light was just appearing as our first group set out for LGLN. Bob Harrison took Low Gross honors in a tie-breaker over Vester. Then there was a three-way tie with Craig, Doc, and Tom sharing third place.
Ralph claimed Low Net with Kim close behind for second and another three-way tie for third between Jack, Ira, and Richard. Jack had one of two skins with a nice chip-in birdie and Ira took the other skin. There were no on-in-ones carded.

The course looked very nice in the soft light of the morning. There was grass on the fairways! Really. We had two unbreakable ties. First, Ralph and Kim tied Vester and Paul for first place. Then Neeraj and Doc tied Bob H and Chuck. For others, after nine holes, the morning looked less lovely.

The eleven members who showed up for our away game at Alhambra were treated to a very short course with all the tees moved up due to maintenance of the tee boxes. Several of the par 4's were driveable making for an interesting round with quite a few birdies and pars. Ralph took low gross honors with Kim one stroke behind and Jim Stowell hung in there for third. Ray took low net honors coupled with two skins while Richard, one stroke back, sweetened the deal with five skins. Nice going Richard! Jack got on the leaderboard with a skin.

There was a good turnout this morning with 18 players in the tournament. Neeraj had everything working today with a 1-over par 37 gross score and taking first place in RW&B plus two skins. Bill Morgan and Ralph were tied for second. Bill tacked on a skin, and Ralph had an on-in-one. Dave and Doc were tied for fourth. Dave also had a skin and on-in-one.

Today's game was Tin Whistle. Follow-up:
Points are earned based on net score. Birdie earns 5 points, par earns 3 points, and bogey earns 1 point. Any score over bogey earns no points.
Results Three way tie for first between Bob B, Ray S and Paul S. The tie was broken with Bob B coming in first and Ray and Paul tied for second and Bob H in fourth.
There were four skins over all: Bob B picked up two for a Birdie on #9 and an Eagle on #3. Ralph got a Birdie on #1 and new member Al a Birdie on #4.
There were two On in Ones: by Paul and new member Scott.

I missed a Chip In by Bob H he made on #8. This increases his points from 4 to 6 and there by changing the results at the top of the leaderboard. Please see updated results below.
Today's game was Aces Wild. We had a good turn out today, with two new members playing.

The aerated greens made putting tricky but as it turns out, we've got some good putters out there.
In Aces Wild scores on each hole can be improved by 2 strokes with a 0 putt and by 1 with a 1 putt. On the leaderboard, the “Player Points Summary" is the number points earned by each player. These points are subtracted from the player's net score to generate the Aces Wild score. These scores are listed "Aces Wild" table inside the link.

Today was the monthly Low Gross Low Net game. We had a good turn out today.
Low Gross results: 1st-Bob H, 2nd-Vester, Tied for 3rd-Ralph and John
Low Net results: 1st-Ray 2nd-Doc. There was a five way tie for 3rd place-Ira, Richard, Bill, Neeraj and Paul.
There were three skins: John for and Eagle on #1, Neeraj for a Birdie on #3 and Richard for a Birdie on #9.
There was two On in Ones: John on #6 and Jim on #8.

Club Championship R2 6.23

Vester Pittman is once again our Low Gross champion, and congratulations to him for a great string of club wins. Bob Harrison gave him a run for it and came in second, with Dave Nold placing third.
Paul Swaim had a good second round taking Low Net honors in a tie-breaker over Ray Spano. Paul had three skins adding to his take, and Ray also earned a skin. Jim Stowell took third place.

Our first round of the 2023 Club Championship found Vester in a strong lead over the field with a 41. Bob Harrison and Dave Nold are within striking distance at 45 but have their work cut out. Kim is close enough to get on the Low Gross leaderboard.
Ray found his game after struggling on Tuesday and has the lead in Low Net. Ira, Dave, and Kim are also positioned to move up in that category.
Ray, Ira, and Dave had one skin with net birdies.
Alhambra 6.23

We had a good round with 11 players at the beautiful Alhambra golf course in pleasantly warm weather. The greens were recently cut and sanded but played well. The day belonged to the two Roberts. Bob Harrison took Low Gross with three skins, and Rob Norman enjoyed his Low Net honors also with three skins. Kim was second in Low Gross with a skin, and John followed the pattern with second in Low Net and a skin.

We went back to a pure irons only tournament today. Did anyone play a 1 iron? Ray was the big winner today taking first with one of three skins. Vester hung in there for second adding a skin. . Mike Whipple was third and Ralph took fourth. Jack finished out of the money but tacked on a skin.
