Today’s Game was 5 of Clubs.  Ralph and Kim were the top scorers, with the tiebreak going to Ralph.  Jim came in third and John fourth.

We had a small turnout for this week's match-play tournament, perhaps due to the continuing cold weather.  Henry, Doc, and Jim Stowell won their matches while Robert and Ralph were tied.

Today’s Game was a 2 Man Scramble.  Vester and Bill won the event today.  The teams of John and Henry and Neeraj and Doc tied for second two strokes back.

Our Criers game saw John edge out Kim, and both added skins to their take. Jim S and Mike W were tied for third. Henry scored a skin and Bob had the only on-in-one for the day.

Today’s Game was Aces Wild where scores on each hole can be improved by 2 strokes with a 0 putt and by 1 with a 1 putt. On the leaderboard, the “Points” column refers to Putt credits. Ralph had his “A” game on today with 8 Ace points, and low gross putting him in first place. Paul came in second and Jim Stowell and Ray Spano tied at 3rd. Skins went to Bob B for Birdie on 2 and Eagle on 5, Henry for Birdie on 1, Jim Stowell for Birdie on 4, Ray for Birdie on 6 and Kim for Birdie on 7.

February’s away tournament was Santa Anita this last Tuesday. Thursday’s usual game was rainout and no one braved the elements to play. On Tuesday, Vester took Low Gross honors with Bob H and Ralph placing second and third. Low Net went to Henry Chavez. Skins went to Vester for Birdie on 2, Birdie on 11 and Birdie on 16, Bob B for Birdie on 6 and Eagle on 14, Doc for r Birdie on 7 and Birdie on 10, Jim Stowell for Birdie on 13, John Broderick for Birdie on 12 and Henry for Birdie on 9.

This week we played a four-man best-ball tournament with the team of Bill M Frank, Jack, and Jim S taking first place by two strokes with all four players contributing to the win. Paul, Tom, Ray, and Bill W., tied with Richard, Doc, Neeraj, and Vester for second place. Kim Petersen fell out of the money but had a fine round posting both low net and low gross for the day.

There was a new game played today, a 2-Man Alternate shot. Dave and Bob teamed up to take first place with the teams of Ralph and Vester, then Doc and Paul tied for second one stroke back.

After Tobin's first stint as president of the ASMGC board, he took command of the field taking first place in Tin Whistle with 29 points.  Paul hung in there for a second at 26 Stableford points.  Henry Chavez was the big winner for the day taking the sole skin and tying with Vester for third place.  There were no on-in-ones carded.

We had our end-of-the-month LGLN tournament with a nice putting contest after play.  Vester took low-gross honors with Bob a close second and John third. Ralph had low-net honors with a three-way tie for second between Henry, Richard, and Ray.  Jack, Kim and Tobin each had a skin.

In the putting contest, Henry topped the winnings today with his first place. Dave was second, and Ralph third. The putting contest was a three-way tie at 13 strokes over six holes, with distance to the hole deciding the outcome.

Paul and Vester teamed up to win the 2-May Scramble by three strokes. Dave, Bob H,  John, and were tied for second place. 

There was a good turnout of 14 members for our away game at Alhambra. The course was very soggy, both from the rain and from overwatering. That didn't stop Ralph from having a good round taking low-gross honors, and he had low-net as well. Bob was second, two strokes back, and Vester hung in there for third.

Tobin took low-net honors by two strokes and carded two skins as well. Tom was second, with Chuck, Doc, and Mike tied for third.

We played our first round of golf this new year, with Mike W taking first place in our 5 of Clubs tournament.  Bob Boucher took second while John B and Paul tied for third.   The long-hitting Mike Pavese had the only on-in-one, and there were six skins.

Vester had a blistering round in this last tournament of the season, playing scratch golf and securing a clear low gross and low net for the day. Ralph and Jim tied for second, and Jim had the only on-in-one.  Mike W  took low net honors with two skins putting him at the top of the winnings for the day. Paul, Neeraj, and Ray were tied for second.

There was a small turnout for our  Match Play tournament due to the cold, perhaps just the busy holiday season.  Click the link for results.

Vester and Paul teamed up to take the 2-Man Scramble event. Mike W, Ray, Rob H, and Dave were one stroke behind and tied for second.

It was a bit nippy for our away round at Alhambra and it seemed to cool off the golf as the top scorers were five over net par. Vester hung in there for low-gross honors tacking on two skins. Bob H took second, with Jim S third.  Mike W won low-net in a tie-breaker over Kim, with Bob B and Chuck tied for third. Bob added three skins to sweeten the deal. Ralph and Bill M each had a skin.

Richard played well, scoring two under net par, taking RW&B honors tacking on a skin as well. Jack hung in there for second. Neeraj and Vester were tied for third, with Neeraj also taking a skin.

There was a decent turnout of 20 members this morning for Tin Whistle. One of our newest members, John Broderick, joined us for the round, so welcome, John!  Mike Whipple was on it this morning, taking three skins and finishing well ahead of the field with 35 points. Bill Morgan took second with 28 points, while Kim and Ray tied for third.  There were no one-in-ones today

There was a modest turnout of eleven members on this, the day before Thanksgiving. No doubt, many were preparing for family get-togethers or simply didn't want to brave the brisk morning.  Vester had another strong round taking low-gross honors, with Tobin and Ralph finishing second and third.  Dave topped the winnings board by combining low-net with a skin.  Tom took second place with a skin, and Henry sweetened his third spot also with a skin.

Our 4-Man Scramble was played on a beautiful fall morning, and we finished with a nicely constructed putting contest.  In a close finish, the team of Tom, Henry, Paul, and Vester took first place.  Mike, Dave, Rob, and Bob finished one stroke back, with Ralph, Van, Kim, and Jim S finishing third.

In the putting contest, three people tied for first with a score of 10 putts for the 5-hole event. The ties were all broken by the tie-breaker closest to the hole on the first putt on the last hole, which was a 40-foot uphill putt. Vester was closest with a distance of 3’6”. Second was Paul Swain with a putt of 4’ 6”, and third was Dave Nold at 6’10”. Ralph was 4th, and Ludi was 5th place.

There was a small turnout for our annual Turkey Shoot. Perhaps the cold morning kept people away?  Dave took Low Gross honors with Kim, Jim S, Ralph, and Bob H hanging in there for payouts.  Richard had a good round taking Low Net with Henry, Jack, Paul, and Mike W sharing in the payouts.  Skins went to Richard, Dave, Kim, and Jim S.

Vester  had a blistering round on a brisk morning of LowNet/Low Putts.  His net  32 took first place over Ray Spano he had his mostly usual on-in-one  and tacked on two skins.  Tom and Ralph shared third place.  Then Tom  had the hot hand taking low putts over Ralph and Bob.

Tom had a breakout round this morning and almost broke the bank.  He carded the only skin and took low gross honors in a tiebreaker over Vester.  Tom also had low net for the day, which signals a great round.  Jim Stowell and Ralph shared third.

Charles took low net honors in a tiebreaker over Henry, with Neeraj, Doc, and Ray sharing third place.

Bob Harrison and Dave lead the field by two strokes.  Vester and Paul took second. Jim Stowell and Mike Pavese were one stroke back and had a fine middle three holes.

Summer seems to have returned for our away game at Santa Anita, and Ray Spano was playing hot, topping the winnings with LG honors and two of four skins. Bob Harrison took LN, adding a skin to his take. Jim Nelson hung in there for second in LG, with Dave taking third. Tom got a second in LN plus a skin.  Jim Stowell had to settle for third in LN.

Doc had another breakout day leading the field by four strokes to win the Red, White & Blue tournament.  Mike Whipple was second, with Ray and Vester tied for third.  Ray had the sole skin today, putting him at the top of the day's winnings, and Vester tacked on two on-in-ones, making up for a brief dry spell in that category.

With a warm weekend forecast, the Five of Clubs tournament was played on a very comfortable morning. Unfortunately, the greens were punched and very sandy.  That didn't stop Ray, who posted a net 34 for first place tacking on two of the four skins. Bob Harrison was one stroke back for second, and Mike Whipple took third. There was a three-way tie between Bill M., Charles, and Vester.  Doc and Paul both had skins.

We enjoyed another two-round team event honoring the  PGA yearly events like Ryder and President's cup.  The pairings seemed to work out well and were very closely matched with only one stroke separating teams in most foursomes.  So good work Jack and Tobin!  Special mention should go out to the cafe to get a lot of food out quickly.  The Titans took a 4-3 advantage over the Jesters in the first round ending up  8 to 6 after the final Scramble round.

Well, the results are in!  I just got the final scorecard which made a dramatic change in the results.  From an early results tie, with the new scorecard, the Titans triumphed, tumbling the Jesters to a 4-3 drubbing.

I hope everyone enjoyed the round. It was really fun for our group.  We did feel a different pressure early on in the rounds and always had a different take on each shot but it was great to see everyone supporting the team and enjoying the 'slings and arrows' of golf's turns of fortune.

The Alhambra course was in good condition  except for the recently sanded greens. Still, it was a beautiful day on  the course.  Kim had a good round beating Jim Stowell by one stroke and  adding two skins. Jim also had two skins.  Van and Chuck shared third  place in the low gross category.  Rob had a strong round taking low net  honors and adding a skin to his take. Tobin had to settle for a second  and added a skin to his take. Bill and Henry split third place.

Tom and Paul took first place, beating Ralph and Kim by one stroke.  Bob Harrison and Dave were tied with Herman and Charles for third place. It's always interesting to look at the net scores for individuals. Tom and Charles were -5 par-to-net for the day, helping their teams.

We all played Tin Whistle this week instead  of the fake news put out last week that we would play Red White &  Blue. Mike Whipple must be glad to have just renewed his membership  because he cleared the field by four points and carded two of the four  skins.  The two Bobs (Harrison and Norman) tied for second place. Rob  added a skin, and Bob had an on-in-one. Vester hung in for fourth place,  adding a skin and an on-in-one to this take.

Doc must like the heat!  He led the field by three strokes in our Aces Wild tournament. Bob  Boucher took second by two strokes over a four-way tie between Don, Ralph, Jim Stowell, and Tom.  Doc, Bob, and Don also won skins. We had on-in-ones from Ludi, Bill Morgan, Mike Whipple, and Ralph.

Our final game of August was the  traditional LGLN tournament. Vester came out strong, taking low-gross  and the only on-in-one.   Dave Nold had to settle for second, with Don  and Jim Stowell sharing third place.

Charles Hope snagged low-net honors, and Richard took second, adding a skin to his take.  Doc and Ray each had a skin.

Our outing at San Dimas was fully attended,  with 12 members teeing off on that very interesting course.  We  welcomed back Jeff Gordon, who's been missing from our lineup.  The  weather was very cooperative, staying mostly in the low 80s most of the  time due to some light cloud cover and a steady on-shore breeze. This is  a beautiful course in a great setting, and every hole offers something  different and challenging and should be put on our regular rotation.  Bill Morgan combined first place in low net with a skin to top the  winnings board. Dave Nold had low gross honors, with Bob Harrison close  behind and adding a skin to his take. Tobin took second in low-net, also  adding a skin.  Rob Norman and Jim Stowell took third in LN and LG,  respectively, each with a skin.

Ralph and Kim cleared the field by three strokes in today's 2-Man Scramble tournament. Bob Harrison and Jim Nelson took second place, with Richard and Tobin close behind for third place.

There was a good turnout this morning for our somewhat compromised Red White & Blue tournament, with many tees grouped for what can only be expected to be eventual maintenance. (it could happen) Vester had another strong round winning RW&B and getting two one-in-ones. Ray took second and tacked on one of three skins.  Ludi hung in there for third place, with Doc and Tobin tied for fourth.  Charles Hope and Henry Chavez each had a skin.

Vester did not miss having his driver or fairway woods today taking low net honors and the only skin with a birdie on 9.  The only thing missing from his game today was an on-in-one. Ralph and Jack were tied for second place one stroke back, with Dave picking up fourth place.

Don had a strong round taking both low gross honors and the lowest net score.  He also tacked on one of the six on-in-ones for the day. Vester was one stroke back, taking second, and had his usual on-in-one. Tobin and Kim were tied for third.

Our final group dominated the low-net honors, with Herman taking low net with a skin,  in a tie-breaker over Charles, who also had a skin.  Mike Whipple hung in there for third.   Bob Bucher had one of the skins and an on-in-one as well.

The  scramble format is popular because it's fun, lower stress and you  really appreciate your team's play. The team to beat today was Richard,  Paul, Neeraj, and Henry, who led the field by two strokes.   Bob  Boucher, Dave, Mike W, and Bill W were a solid second which left a  three-way tie for third, making everyone a winner today.

Santa Anita hosted the a great turnout for our monthly away game where 15 members played the popular course.  Bob Harrison topped the leaderboard taking low-gross and one of the skins. Jim Nelson came in second with Kim picking up the 3rd spot.  Bob Boucher was well clear of the field taking low-net honors.  Rob and Tobin were tied for second and each had 2 skins. Tom and Jim Stowell had to settle for a skin each.

As usual for the Criers tournament, there was a tight finish.  Mike Anderson won first place in a tie-breaker over Rob and Neeraj. Following them, Bill Morgan, Mike Whipple, and Richard Martin all tied for fourth.  Rob, Henry, and Paul each won skins.  Don and Vester had to settle for on-in-ones.

Our Tin Whistle game saw Bill Morgan edging out Vester in a tie-breaker.  Vester sweetened his deal with the only on-in-one.  (Maybe we should just call them "Vesters").  Andy Pollard came in third, with Herman bagging fourth place.   Dave and Ray split the skins pool.

Vester hung in there to win the Club Championship adding skin and two on-in-ones in all. Dave took second with Tobin and Jim Nelson tied for third. Jim Stowell was in the running at 5th place.

Ray took low-net honors and added a skin to his take. Mike and Ralph were tied for second with Paul and Mike P taking also in the running.

Our first round of the Club Championship saw Vester taking charge as he can do so well. He leads the field by four strokes and had one of only two on-in-ones today. His closest competitor Dave qualifies for low-net honors but I'm sure will be gunning for that low-gross spot. Also in the mix are Tobin, Ralph, Herman, and Bill Morgan.

Dave Nold won low gross honors and tacked on two skins. Chuck Saldumbide settled for second and also with two skins. Ralph came in third with a skin as well.

 Ray Spano won low net and also added two skins with Jim Stowell  second and Don third all with one skin.

The 2-Man Shamble tournament had a tight finish with Bob Harrison and Dave taking first place in a tie-breaker over Frank and Mike Whipple. Then there was a three way tie for third including  Mike Anderson, Ludi, Don, Ralph, Paul and Vester.

At the end of the Six Blind Holes round, numbered balls were drawn by members, who apparently were not all that happy with their selections but that's the luck of the draw.  Holes 6,7 and 9 were eliminated from the scoring.  With that selection, Vester was the clear winner with a net 25, four strokes over second place winner Dave Nold.  Ralph hung in there for third place and Tobin picked up fourth. Vester also had one of four skins and the only on-in-one. Bill Morgan, Charles and Mike Whipple also picked up skins.

The scores for RWB this week suggested the course tested many players but Ludi had a strong enough round to take Low Net honors.  Bill Morgan was one stroke back with Jim Stowell and Chuck tied for third. Jim added one of two skins to his take and Mike Whipple took the other skin.

Vester ran away from the field taking low-gross by 7 strokes adding two Skins and finishing with an eagle on 9.  Nice going, Vester!  Kim sweetened his second-place finish with a Skin and the only on-in-one of the day and  making that with a birdie.

Jim Stowell had a nice round taking low-net honors and there was a three-way tie for third between Bob Boucher, Richard, and Bill Morgan.

For our second team event of the month, we enjoyed 2-Man Best Ball. Jim Nelson and Bob Harrison came out on top with the teams of  Jim Stowell &Vester Pittman, Richard Martin & Ray Spano tied for second.

On Wednesday some of the more intrepid members played the infamous DeBell with all too predictable results.  Tough putting and lots of opportunities for lost balls make this one of our favorite courses.... right?  Vester took low-gross honors and added two on-in-ones to his take. Jack took low-net and with two skins.  Dave Nold shared in the top winnings with a second in low-gross plus two skins and three on-in-ones.

Everyone was a winner today with beautiful weather, the course looking pretty good, and a free if somewhat scrambled lunch.  For our scramble game, the top group of Doc, Neeraj, Henry, and a guest/ringer from Eaton Canyon John Sojke finished two strokes ahead of the field. The next two groups were tied for second.

There was some hope for the return of our driving range as we saw the support poles rising out of the morning fog.  Tobin doesn't seem to need the practice as he had a nice round today, winning the Tin Whistle tournament and adding a skin.  Richard had to settle for a second but sweetened the deal with two skins.  Rob came in third one point back, with Neeraj and Ralph tied for fourth.

Vester had the hot hand this cool spring morning taking low gross with his 41 and adding one of three skins to his take.  Bob Harrison settled for a second just one stroke back with Don at third while adding a skin.

Jack captured low net honors.  Doc was one stroke back and added the only two on-in-ones.  Herman hung in there for third in low-net. Tobin took the third skin for the day.

Our team event for this month, the 4-Man Scramble was played in lovely mild spring weather with the course looking very well.  It was a tight finish with Ralph, Don, Vester, and Kim playing their "A" game taking first place but two teams finished just one stroke back with Tobin, Bill W, John, Mike P, Bill M, Rob, Jim S and Mike A sharing the honors.

On Tuesday there was a good turnout for the very interesting Scholl Canyon golf course. This was a test of the short game, and, for those who walked up to the 12th hole, a test of endurance. Don edged out Dave in a tie-breaker for low gross with Mike Anderson hanging in there for third. Rob took low net in a tie-breaker over Jon Halvorson who sweetened the deal with 5 skins!  Jack took third and added a skin to his take.

The cleanup group swept the field today with Charles taking first in Red White & Blue, while Harry took second and tacked on one of two skins. Andy and Herman from that group were part of the 5 players tied for third. Bill Morgan had the trifecta of a skin, on-in-one, and tied for third. One of our newest members, Chuck Saldumbide had an on-in-one.  We also welcomed Frank Starnes to the group.
