Tournament Results

LGLN 4.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

Vester had a hot round on this fine morning taking low gross honors with a 39 and added two of the 5 skins. Kim and Jim Nelson took second and third.

Mike took low net and topped the payouts with the remaining 3 skins. Richard took second and Ralph took third. There were no on-in-ones carded.

Match Play 4.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

I hope the members who braved the cool morning enjoyed match play as much as I did scoring it.  It was interesting to see how individual pairings worked out.  There were no ties or "Halves" in this round. The tightest match was between Don and Vester with Don one up after a back and forth series of holes.  Full results are shown below.

DeBell 4.21
Course:
DeBell

Date

It was another predictable outing at DeBell where there are opportunities to score, but the course can hurt you as well.  Many promise themselves never to return to that course.... but we do.  Ralph edged out Vester for low gross honors with very respectable scores.  Jim Stowell came in third. Ralph added a skin to his take, and Vester had 2 on-in-ones.  Jim padded his take with a skin and on-in-one.

Bill took low net honors in a tie-breaker over Tom, with Jack close behind for third. Both Bill and Tom tacked on two skins to sweeten the pot.  It was good to see Don back playing 18 holes where he and Kim both had to settle for on-in-ones.

4 Man Scramble 4.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

The team of Park, Vester, Tom, and Paul edged out Tobin, Bill, Ray, and Kim in a tiebreaker.  Ralph, Don, Van, and John had to settle for third.  We had 20 players in total but only 4 foursomes in the scramble.

Red, White & Blue 4.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

Richard was the top winner in today's game taking the lead in RW&B and added one of four skins. John Kirk took second and also had a skin to sweeten the deal. Doc and Tom were tied for third with a skin for Doc as well. Ray took the fourth skin playing on a still-healing foot, nice going Ray.  Bill and Vester had the only on-in-ones.

5 of Clubs 4.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

As usual, this game suggests we're all carrying too many clubs!  Vester had a very nice gross 42. John Kirk took low net honors for the day with Richard and Paul sharing second place.  Richard added one of the two skins to his take making the top winner for the day.  There was a three way tie for fourth.  No on-in-ones were carded

LGLN 3.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

Kim edged out Vester in a tie-breaker for low gross and Vester added one of the skins to his take.  Jim and Van split 3rd place.

Paul has been playing well lately and took low net honors and had the only carded on-in-one.  Mike Anderson topped the winnings with three skins and a second place in low net.

2 Man Scramble 3.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

Park and  Vester had a fine round two strokes ahead of Kim and Tobin to take honors in the 2-Man-Scramble. Paul, Tom, Hanry, and Doc shared third place.

It was nice to see the new fairways trying to fill in but the greens were still a little disappointing. The fairways are being overseeded to give new growth as spring advances, so we can look forward to better days ahead.

Montebello 3.21
Course:

Date

It was a beautiful morning for golf at the very nice Montebello course.  If the game wasn't going as well as you like there were always the snow-clad mountains in the distance. The greens were still recovering from recent maintenance and were a bit slow and bumpy but overall the course was lovely.

Jim edged out Ralph for low-gross with Tom Story taking third.  Van had low-net with Rob and Bill finishing second and third.  Van and Jim added two skins each to top the winnings list. Tom had three skins, and Rob took one as well.

Criers 3.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

Aces Wild 3.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

Whether fear of dreadful storms, or deadly  lightnening strikes, or the much anticipated March 4th civil unrest kept  people away we may only guess, but only 9 people showed up today for  our Aces Wild game.  Vester was undeterred as he topped the field with a  fine gross 38 score with two one-putts put him 2 up on the field and  added the only two skins to his take for the day. Kim took second, with  Tom and Ralph a close third and fourth.  There were no on-in-ones  carded.

LGLN 2.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

Richard topped the earnings board with Low Net and two of the four skins. Paul played very well last week but was unable to participate in the best ball format but had another good day and shared second place with Doc.

Vester had a strong enough outing to take Low Gross honors. Ralph settled for a second and added a skin.  Tobin had skin.  There were no on-in-ones carded.

4 Man Best Ball 2.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

There was a smallish field of three foursomes for our 4-Man Best Ball game with a couple of groups just playing for fun, which it's all about anyway.  The winning group of Bill, Jack, Jim, and Rob did not play particularly well individually but each team member came through on individual holes to support the team. Richard, Harry Doc, and Henry won second in a tiebreaker with Ralph, Van, John, and Kim settling for third.  Doc had two of four skins, with Jack and Jim taking one each.

Kim had the only one-in-one of the day, on the difficult 8th hole, and didn't you love that flag placement.

Brookside 2.21
Course:
Brookside #1

Date

It was a beautiful morning at Brookside where we played the newly flipped 9's on the Koiner course.  The weather started out a bit cool and warmed nicely, but the golf play remained cold.  Perhaps it was the very hard and fast greens but we, as a group may have broken some kind of record for maxing out strokes on holes.

Ralph and Bill topped the winnings with firsts in Low Gross and Low net, each adding a skin and Ralph took one of only two on-in-ones. Kim shared second in Low Net and added two skins to his take. Vester was close behind Ralph and also got a skin.  Jack shared second in low net and had the only other on-in-one. Jim had to settle for third in Low Gross.

Red White and Blue 2.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

Richard collected money from both ends of the game today, collecting from the players, and thanks for that Richard, then took first place in our RW&B game. Jim Stowell shared second with Ralph and collected one of 5 skins. John Kirk had to settle for fourth place but added a skin as well.  Vester had the only on-in-one on the difficult 8th hole and also had a skin.

Tin Whistle 2.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

Enjoying more wonderful SoCal weather we had 14 members playing in the Tin Whistle game.  Mike scored points on every hole racking up 6 pars and 1 birdie to take first place adding a skin to his take. Herman scored on all but one hole and had 2 birdies and three net pars to take second place. There was a four-way tie for third for Kim, Jim S, Tom, and Vester.  Those same players also took the remaining skins with Jim and Vester earning two skins each.

LGLN 1.21

2 Man Shamble 1.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

There was a very tight finish of our 2-Man Shamble with the top three teams tied at a net 2 under par.   Using a tie-breaking mechanism looking at the final holes,  Tom and Vester came out on top. The teams of Park and Paul,  and then Charles and Herman were tied for second.

Alhambra 1.21
Course:
Alhambra GC

Date

There was a typically small turnout for our away game this month at the Alambra course. Some may have been staying away because of the fierce winds forecast but we saw only the slightest breeze.  Tom was the top winner with low-net a skin, and a difficult on-in-one on hole 13. Ralph was close with low-gross honors and two on-in-ones. Bill combined a third place in low-net with a skin. Jack earned a skin and on-in-one on the same hole with a nice birdie on 15.

5 of Clubs 1.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

There was a nice turnout of 19 members on a great SoCal morning for our interesting "5 of clubs" game.  Paul had a fine outing taking first place and tacked on a skin. Richard took a second and also added a skin to his take. Tom settled for 3rd and Park finished fourth.  There were no on-in-ones carded.

Red White and Blue 1.21
Course:
Altadena

Date

Our first tournament was Red White and Blue where we saw a decent turnout, given the length of our injured reserve list, of 17 members.  Kim had a very strong outing in spite of some putting problems on that difficult hole 8.  His low net for the RW&B game plus two skins makes him the top winner of the day.  He also had low-gross for the day which earns nothing but respect.  Jim and John Kirk tied for second and each had a skin.  Ralph and Park were tied for fourth and Ralph added a skin to his take.

LGLN 12.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

There was a smallish turnout of the usual suspects on a wintery morning (for Southern California that is).  Ralph was hot though, playing one of his better rounds going out with four straight pars. Ralph added skin to his take and also posted the lowest net score for the day.  Paul won low net honors however and also had skin so tied Ralph in winnings.  Richard took second in low net with Jim Stowell taking second in low gross.  Doc had the only carded on-in-one on that difficult 8th hole.

2 Man Scramble 12.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

There was a reprieve from the county this week allowing us to play once again and 18 players made it out to play 2-Man Scramble on our (somewhat) renovated course.  Vester and Tom had a strong round with three net birdies and only one bogey.  Mike and Jim Stowell were one stroke behind.  Park, Paul, Doc, and Harry were tied for third place also by just one stroke.

Tin Whistle 12.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

It was a nice morning for Tin Whistle.  Doc's steady play earned first place with only one double bogey hole.  Andy was second in a tiebreaker. Rob took third with an on-in-one.

Kim, Vester, and Mike each had a skin.

LGLN 11.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

Ralph had a nice round at just 3 over par earning honors in low-gross and one of two skins to top the winnings for the day.  Vester  played well as usual and came in with low-net.  Herman took second in net scoring and Kim was second in gross scoring. There were no on-in-ones carded.

4 Man Scramble 11.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

The group of Bill, Park, Paul, and Tom took honors in the 4-Man Scramble with 6 net birdies including an earned birdie (no "pops") on 9.  A close second was the team of Harry, Charles, and Herman just one stroke behind.  Richard, Harry, Doc, and Jim settled for third.  None of the winning groups had carded net bogeys.

Alhambra 11.20
Course:
Alhambra GC

Date

For the 9 of us who came out to play Alhambra, we found a course in excellent shape due to the work the new managers are putting into the course.  As part of that effort, the tee boxes were being seeded so the tees were moved up.  That might account for the 18 on-in-ones carded today and fully half the payouts. Richard topped the winnings with low net honors, a skin, and three on-in-ones.  Ralph took low gross and three on-in-ones.  Van topped the on-in-one race with 4!

Turkey Shoot 11.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

There was a decent turnout of 18 members playing our annual Turkey Shoot on a lovely fall morning.  Kim and Vester shared the low gross honors and both added a skin to their take with Vester carding the only one-in-one on the difficult 8th hole. Ralph, Van, and our newest member Tobin joined in the holiday payouts.

For Low Net honors, Rob, Mike, Ludi, Herman, Doc, and Paul all took home some turkey money.

Low Net, Low Putts 11.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

There was a nice turnout for this once a year tournament of Low Net/Low Putts and many found it to be an interesting view of the game.  Ralph had a good round with another 42 gross but had to settle for Low Putt honors with 12 putts and he added one of three skins.  Richard was a close second in low putts, was tied for third in low net, and added a skin so he got to take home some of the money he collects for us.  Tom shared second in low Putts with Richard and had a second in Low Net so also had a nice take for the day.   Ludi had a fine round with low net honors.  Vester also played well but had to settle for a skin and the only on-in-one.

LGLN 10.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

Everyone must have enjoyed the wonderful weather for our end of the month Low Gross Low Net tournament. Ralph had a particularly good time shooting a 42 and four strokes ahead of the low gross field. Doc and Vester were tied for second and Doc added a skin to his take.

Harry Missakian was closest to Ralph in gross score and finished first in low net.  Our newest player, Tobin, struggled a bit but taking a skin and the only on-in-on might take some of the pain away.  Edgar, Bob, Richard, Tom and Paul split second place in low net.

Jack had the third skin.

Match Play 10.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

There was a nice turnout for our match play tournament on a refreshing morning.  I hope everyone enjoyed this different format.  Go to the results website for details.

Montebello 10.20
Course:
Montebello

Date

Ralph was having some fun Tuesday shooting an 84 taking low gross while adding three skins and an on-in-one. Kim had to settle for second but padded his winnings with a skin and on-in-one.

Jim Stowell took low net honors tacking on a skin and on-in-one as well. Van took second in low net with a skin.

Tri Golf-A-Thon
Course:
Altadena

Date

Today's tournament was a test just to get our heads around the mixed format but as with all team events, it was a fun round. We welcomed a new member Tobin Tellers who played with Kim this fine morning.  They played well but not well enough to escape the hot play of Vester and Ray who beat the field by 5 strokes!  Well played guys. Kim and Tobin will settle for second with Ralph and Van close behind.

Red White & Blue
Course:
Altadena

Date

Red White and Blue was played on a nice fall-like morning.  Richard snuck past the pack taking first place by two strokes with Jack, Ralph, Harry Missakian, and Doc in a four-way tie for second. Jack, Doc, and Harry each had on-in-ones as well.

5 of Clubs 10.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

Ray Spano continued his winning ways taking first place in 5 of Clubs tacking on both a skin and an on-in-one.  Maybe we all should take a month off with an injury. (Course that didn't work for me).  Ralph was a close second and there was a five-way tie for third with both Park and Vester adding skins.

LGLN 9.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

Paul was the big winner today running off a string of pars and carding one of only two skins. Ralph took low gross honors with Jim Nelson a close second.  Jim Stowell had to settle for third but added the only carded on-in-one.

Van struggled a bit but took the other skin with a net par on the long hole 5.

Alhambra 9.20
Course:
Alhambra GC

Date

There was a decent turnout for our away game at Alhambra where 9 members braved the toxic air to play one of our favorite courses.  Vester had another strong outing slipping past Ralph and Jim Stowell for low gross honors.  He also had 2 of the 5 on-in-ones.  Ralph took second and added a skin, while Jim settling for third sweetened the pot with 2 skins.

Tin Whistle 9.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

With only 12 members braving the toxic air we saw a couple of players rewarded for returning to the fold. Ludi won the Tin Whistle competition scoring points on almost every hole.  Joe Dean, also making a return, took second.  Richard and Bob Bowdoin shared third place.  Ralph scored the only skin for the day and Jim N had to settle for the only on-in-one.

Aces Wild 9.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

Charles had a strong round taking low-net and, with 5 one-putts, won the Aces Wild tournament.  Richard with 4 one-putts and Paul with 5 were tied for second place, and Vester also with 5 one-putts took fourth.   Ralph was edged out in Aces but carded the only on-in-one with a one-putt birdie giving him the only skin for the day.

LGLN 8.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

Bob Bowdoin was the big winner for today's LGLN tournament, taking low net honors and one of two skins.  Ralph won low-gross with Tom, and the two Jims sharing second. Tom added a skin as well.  There were no on-in-ones carded.

2 Man Scramble 9.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

There was a modest turnout for this month's team event, the 20-Man Scramble.  It was a tight finish with Van and Ralph squeezing past Vester and Paul.  There was a two-way tie for third place with Jack & Rob tied with Park & Tom.  The course is looking promising with a hint of new growth in the fairways and the greens are nicely defined and in good condition.

Red White &Blue 8.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

Park scored four net birdies to lead the pack on RW&B.  He was closely followed by Andy, and Charles tied for second.  Harry Missakian and Herman finished one shot back tied for fourth.  Charles added a skin to his take along with Jim N. and Paul.

Iron Only 8.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

Paul continued in his winning ways taking low net honors and scored the only two skins. Paul had low gross as well. Nice round Paul!   Richard was close behind taking second with Ray and John taking 3rd and 4th.  There were no on-in-ones carded.

Club Championship 7.20B
Course:
Altadena

Date

Kim Peterson took top honors in our club championship with solid and consistent play shooting 41 and 40 and took one of two skins. Ralph was four back and took second in low gross.  Paul took low net honors, with  Edgar and Rob Bowdoin tied for second place.  Van had the other skin.

Club Championship 7.20 A
Course:
Altadena

Date

The first round of the Club Championship saw 19 players on a cool morning, some might call June gloom.  Halfway through the championship, it is not surprising that Kim, Jim Nelson, and Ralph are battling it out for low gross honors.  Andy has low net so far with Bob Bowdoin, Ray, Paul, Tom, and Richard all vying for a place on the leaderboard.

San Dimas GC
Course:
San Dimas Canyon

Date

Tom came out on top of the winnings taking low net honors with a skin and an on-in-one.  Jim Stowell was close behind in winnings taking low gross and three on-in-ones.  Jim Nelson had to settle for second in low gross but also added a couple of on-in-ones.

4 Man Scramble
Course:
Altadena

Date

What happened to summer?  We had a spring-like morning for our team event of 4-Man Scramble.  It was good to see Doc back playing golf with his regular group. It was a tight finish as expected with these team events with one stroke separating the top finishers but Vester, Park, Paul and Tom took top honors.  Richard, Doc, Paul and Jim were close behind for second, while Kim, Ralph, Jim and John had to settle for third place.   (There are no on-in -ones or skins in our team events.)

Criers 7.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

We had a good turnout of 20 players for Criers. Ray had a particularly nice outing taking first in Criers, had the only on-in-one, and took one of the three skins.  Ralph, Charles, and Richard were tied for second, and Ralph added to his take with a skin.

Tin Whistlc 7.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

Paul had a strong start including his net eagle on hole 3 but Rob rallied with a hot putter and took first place in Tin Whistle points and adding a skin to the take. Paul had two skins as well.  Herman and John tied for third. Jim Nelson had the only carded on-in-one.

LGLN 6.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

We had a nice turnout of 20 players this morning and there were some bright spots shining out from our June gloom.  Vester topped the leaderboard with a 42 and birdied the last hole to edge out Kim and Ralph by one stroke. He also took one of the three skins.

Richard had a great morning with three pars to pull well ahead of the field for low net, and added a skin as well.  Herman took second place and there was a four-way tie for third.

2 Man Shamble 6.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

There was a turnout of 16 members playing 2 Man Shamble on a classic June-gloom morning.  We saw Mike Anderson return to club play and there was no gloom in his play.  Mike's 40 teamed with Jim Stowell to take first place.   Herman and John came in second with Rob and Jack sneaking in for third place.

Montebello Away game
Course:
Montebello

Date

We fielded two foursomes at that very nice Montebello GC for this month's away game. The course was in OK conditions, the greens were in good shape but the fairways were only fair. Jim Nelson ran away from the field carding an 84 and 5 strokes ahead of Ralph who took second in low gross.  Bill hung in there for third.

Jim Stowell took low net honors edging out Tom Story in a tiebreaker with Richard taking third.

Jim Nelson, who started the round saying that the course didn't fit his eye, also took two of the four skins and had a couple of on-in-ones.  The other Jim also had two skins.

Six Blind Holes 6.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

We had a moderate turnout of 18 players with Stephen Griswold playing his first round since the shutdown.  Nice to see you back, Steve.  Ralph was back at the top of the leaderboard in the 6-Blind Holes tournament. Richard and Herman were tied for a close second with Vester taking fourth.  Richard added two of the four skins to his take, with Rob and Ralph also earning skins.

There were no on-in-ones carded.

Red White &Blue 6.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

It was nice to see some new names on the leaderboard this morning with Tom Story taking top honors while adding a skin to his take.  Jack had a good enough round to take a second. Harry Hirakawa took third place with Andy sharing fourth place with Ray. Both Andy and Harry took skins as well.  There were no on-in-ones carded.

LGLN 5.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

So, we did indeed have a nice turnout of 16 players today with a couple more playing for fun.  Ralph edged out Vester for low gross honors in a tiebreaker with Kim one shot behind.  Paul easily took low net with Tom and Harry Missakian taking second and third.  Paul and Harry also had skins.

Vester, Ralph, and John all had on-in-ones.

2 Man Best Ball
Course:
Altadena

Date

There was a turnout of 16 members playing 2 Man Best Ball on Thursday. It doesn't seem like we've lost that much game during the shutdown with Vester carding a 39 gross and his partner Tom took low net honors at -5 net to par combining as a team for Best Ball honors.    Jack and Richard took 2nd place with Park and Paul close behind for third.

Irons Only 5.20
Course:
Altadena

Date

With the opening of many golf courses in our area, some of us are back to playing golf.  The course was reported to be in good shape.  We had eleven brave golfers testing both their COVID and golf skils playing "Irons Only"  (Instead of saying irons-and-hybrids-but-not-drivers-or-fairway-woods).  It seems the layoff didn't really hurt play much with Kim taking low net honors and posting the low gross of 39 for the day.  Jim Stowell was a close second and also had a nice gross score of 42.   Ralph took third in low net and also had a nice 42 gross.  Paul and John shared fourth place.

Skins were taken by Kim, Jim, and Jack, but no on-in-ones were carded.

2 Man Scramble
Course:
Altadena

Date

We were able to field only three teams for the 2-Man Scramble this week.  The weather was a factor but I'm sure the corona virus kept people away too.  Don and Ralph played well enough to take the low gross honors for the round but not good enough to beat Doc and John who took first place honors with the low team net.  Since payouts for team events go to the first three teams, all players were on the money list!

Hansen Dam 3.20
Course:
Hansen Dam

Date

There were only 3 intrepid (i.e. crazy) golfers that showed up at Hansen Dam GC on St Patrick's day for the March "away game", Jim Stowell, John Kirk, and Jack Jourden. Playing from the white tees they were joined by a Mr. Lee. Jim took the day for the club by winning both low-gross and low-net, at least one skin and an on-in-one. Unfortunately, when the rain began on #14 Jack and John headed back to the clubhouse leaving Jim and Mr. Lee to finish by themselves---which they did regardless of the weather!! It was a cold and wet morning for sure but these 3 gave it a go---with Jim besting the day! We are unable to tabulate just how much the club owes Jim!!"

Criers
Course:
Altadena

Date

There was a relatively small turnout for our Criers tournament, either due to the chance or rain or maybe the coronavirus?  We were able to just avoid the rain which came as the last group finished.  The winners were closely packed due in part to the bunching effect of the format where the two worst holes are eliminated coupled with the 2-putt used on sanded greens.  Richard came out on top with Doc, Jack and Joe one point behind tied for second. Doc added to his take with one of the two skins with Kim picking up the second skin. Ludi carded the only on-in-one.
